This is an INSCRIPT-based layout for the Brāhmī block in Unicode. Note that while the layout contains all characters in the block, some characters found in Tamil-Brāhmī inscriptions (namely short vowels, virāma and ḷa) are not yet encoded and therefore unavailable, see the L2/19-402 proposal for more details. This layout is associated with Sanskrit (India) language as prakrit languages are not available.

Implementation notes:

  • Bhaṭṭiprōḷu vowel sign is available on the long key using AltGr.
  • The joiners are assigned as follows:
    • Ctrl+Shift+1 zero-width joiner
    • Ctrl+Shift+2 zero-width non-joiner
    • Ctrl+Shift+3 brāhmī number joiner

Font: In recent Windows versions, Brahmi is covered by Segoe UI Historic. You can also install Noto Sans Brahmi.

Installation instructions:

  1. Download and extract sabrah.zip (250 kB)
  2. Run setup.exe.
  3. Sign out or restart your computer.
